Lou Tilley Kicks Off National Veterans Wheelchair Games

Lou Tilley, President of Lou Tilley Media served as master of ceremonies for the kick-off the 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games, held recently in Philadelphia. The Wheelchair Games started in Richmond back in 1981 with about 70 athletes competing in 7 events, including track and field, table tennis and slalom. From those humble beginnings, the Games have grown to become the largest annual wheelchair multi-sports event in the world. Over 600 Veterans from throughout the United States and Great Britain competed in the week-long event. Joining Lou that day were a number of special guests, including;

 

From Paralyzed Veterans of America;

·        Al Kovach (National President of Paralyzed Veterans of America)

·        Tom Brown (founder of the National Veterans Wheelchair Games)

·        Ernie Butler (Director, Sports and Recreation for PVA)

 

From the Department of Veterans Affairs;

·        Mike  Gallocious (Executive Director, Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs)

·        Dave Tostenrude (Director, National Veterans Wheelchair Games)

·        Daniel Hendee (Director of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center)

 

From the City of Philadelphia;

·        Mr. Richard Negrin (Deputy Mayor of Administration and Managing Director)

 

From the State of New Jersey;

·        Congressman Jon Runyan

 

“This is a very special event for me,” said Tilley. “These Games focus not on the Veterans’ disabilities, but on their capabilities and living life to its fullest. It is truly an honor for me to be a part of this.”
